we love: Samsung Virals
Samsung Virals
Every few months or so we come across a new viral video for a Samsung product ... predominantly their cameras and phones... that makes you sit up and lean into your laptop to take a closer look. More importantly, I always can think of at least 5 people that I want to forward the video onto.
Our favourite has to be their cute animals viral for the Ultratouch - wonderfully random, thoroughly hilarious, but most importantly so cute (a very quick and easy win)!
The content is always captivating, because it's either funny, highly intriguing, uses some of the latest technologies available in social media, or all of the above.
It shows Samsung's (and their agency The Viral Factory) willingness to be daring and their understanding of the channel they are using to try and reach new audiences. Too often we see brands wanting to just dip their toe in to test the water... the result? They hardly create a ripple, let alone a huge wave to surf.
As famously tweeted by Avinash Kaushik, of Google
"OH: Social media is like teen sex. Everyone wants to do it. No one actually knows how. When finally done, there is surprise its not better."
(OH = overheard... so the quote actually comes from someone else)
Something that struck a chord at the recent Social Media 09 conference, from Giles Rhys Jones of Ogilvy, is that brands should be using an 80:20 ratio to their innovative marketing.
- 80% of the marketing budget should be spent on well rehearsed, proven methods; search, Facebook fan pages, twitter feed.
- 20% of the marketing budget needs to be allocated to being brave enough to push the boundaries and testing something new.
Sorry, so back to our original point... here are some more of Samsung's excellent virals;
